Unfortunately there is a very dark side to Open Source Software such as the debacle of PHP and what happened to FFMPEG. I don’t pretend to understand the politics of what happened to cause the split, but it sounds like OpenOffice has become yet another example of Abandonware. My preferred distro installs the Libre version by default so that is mostly - but not always - what I have gone with.
